After Plesk Web Hosting is installed, you can create and manage clients' domains. A domain is a virtual address on the Internet for any organization or entity. Technically, a domain is defined as a group of networked computers (web servers) that represent an organization and provide network services; however, several domains could reside on one web server, in dedicated space provided by a Web hosting service. To the Internet user, a domain appears as space on one web server, regardless of its implementation.
Domains are identified by their familiar Internet URL (uniform resource locator) addresses. Syntactically, a domain name is a string of names or words separated by periods. For example, www.sw-soft.com is the name of the domain where SWsoft's information resides on its web servers. A domain must belong to one client. For example, John Smith may be a programmer whose domain is aceprogrammer.com; the ABCDE, Inc. company may own a domain by the name of abcde.com. All domains are assigned to clients.
NOTE
You must officially register a domain and Internet address before you create it in Plesk Web Hosting . You can do this using the REGISTER option available contained by Plesk Web Hosting or through any of the Internet registration services.
As Plesk Web Hosting admin you can choose to access either the list of domains that belong to a particular client or the complete list of domains that belong to all clients in the system:
Use the DOMAINS button to access the complete list of domains from anywhere in the system. The Domain list page will appear. At this page you can execute group operations on multiple domains at one time. These operations are: making global changes to the permissions and limits for domains, viewing summary reports, total traffic at the domains and removing domains. Also, you can search for specific domains.
To access the list of domains managed by a particular client, select the client in the Client list and click on the client’s name. The Client Home page will appear containing the list of all domains that belong to this client. In addition to the functions listed above, at this page you can add new domains for the client, access the domain management functions. You can also access the additional services, register and manage domains - functions available through My.Plesk Web Hosting .com.
The domain's status is represented by two icons:
